Is making own website better than creating a free blog on blogger.com from earnings from Ads point of view?

Is making own website surpass than making a free blog on blogger.com from earnings from Ads point of view?If so, please clarify with reasons.

I'm plotting to make an information based site and earn from Adsense. The layout doesn't differ much from that of a blog. Plz let me know from SEO point of view if this option will be financially profitable.
