Entrepreneurs who want to make money online by blogging will almost always choose one of two business models. The first model, and probably also the most common one which people use to monetize a blog involves selling advertising space to companies that can stand to benefit from reaching the type of people who frequent the blog.
The second business model which owners of a home-based online business follow involves helping only a single brand by promoting the brand’s image in a positive light. This is basically done by associating the brand with the blog in a positive manner. Irrespective of which type of blog one creates, if you want to make money online then both of these can prove to be very profitable, particularly if the blogger has a keen sense for online marketing.
If you’re creating a blog with the intention of selling advertising opportunities then you basically have two options at your disposal as far as finding sponsors is concerned. You can either pay someone else to do all the work for you, or alternatively, you could do it all yourself, in which case you get to keep 100% of the profits.
If you are blogging with the goal of selling advertising, there are two basic ways that you can go about recruiting sponsors who want to put ads on your site; you can let someone else do all of the legwork, or you can do the work yourself and keep all of the revenue.
On the other hand, when you’re running a home-based online business, you may not have enough time on your hands in order to personally sell advertising space directly to a number of companies that may be interested in having banners or links on your blog. Of course, if you’re fortunate enough to have several contacts within industries that are related to the general topic of your blog, then this may however be an approach you should consider. Individuals who want to make money online, and who have experience in sales can often generate huge profits by renting out blog space to companies. The important thing to bear in mind with this approach is that one will almost always need to have a large following before companies are willing to show any interest with regards to advertising on your site. Essentially this means that before you can make money online, you’ll need to spend a few months getting your blog adequately established.
If you’re trying to establish a profitable home-based online business then you may find that selling advertising directly to companies is far too time consuming, but with that said, it can prove to be very lucrative. In fact, this may be an ideal route to follow if you have a number of contacts in industries that are in some way related to the content of your blog. Even though there is plenty of money to be made by selling or renting out blog space, it’s not an ideal solution for everyone, in that companies will usually only be interested once your blog has a large following. This obviously means that you may need to invest several months of your time before you can start making money from renting out blog space, and if your need to make money online is urgent, then obviously it would be better to follow a different route.
As blogging becomes a more and more lucrative business, a lot of established companies are considering how they can get into the action. One way that companies are capitalizing on the blog movement is by having blogs that provide a kind of friendly face for their corporation. Often, a company will employ an established blogger to create a weblog designed specifically to appeal to that company’s customers and to create positive associations with the brand in consumers’ minds. More than one writer who never even dreamed that he or she could make money blogging has been approached by a company and offered quite a pretty penny for this kind of gig.
